Final Thoughts

With this assignment coming to a close, I would like to thank Luke and Brent for a good job done. We have all worked well together and have achieved what I think to be a fantastic outcome.
It would be a pleasure to work with you guys again in the future.

The total amound of hours I have spent on the assignment is:

The Infographic

I have completed my info graphic using adobe InDesign. The info graphic shows how to use the application in all its forms and also has links to the website, mobile version and flash version of the application. The info graphic has been saved as an interactive pdf.

It took me a while to create the info graphic as i had to re-familiarize myself with In Design as I had not used the program in quite some time, but I am happy with what I came up with.

Monday - 3rd October 2011

The final day has arrived, and we have successfully completed our flash application.
I managed to finish placing the items on the flash document. My info graphic has also been completed, which has links to the blog, flash application and mobile version of the Clever Green application.

Week 8

Today is Sunday, and has it been a BUSY week. With assignments piling up as we began to reach the end of the year, i am now so time short. However, i have managed to finish up the info boxes for our outcome. Hopefully we have tomorrow morning to do a few touch ups to our work, so i can quickly place them in. Monday - 26th September - Week 7

Wow, was today a lucky day! We thought our work was due today, but it turned out that it is due next week. I should have checked my brief. Anyway, i was relieved to find out that we had an extra week to make our outcome as good and informative as possible. With the extra time, I have managed to finish the coding for our flash project and added all the items. We have done research and have the information condensed and prepared. With the information being put into flash now, we are so close to finishing this assignment we can almost smell it.

Our group has worked very well together. Instead of disagreeing on things, we had discussions and considered all options of this assignment. How will it be delivered, what program will we create it in, what items will we use and who will do what were just some of the things we had discussions on.

Thursday - 22 September

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I'm in deep doo doo. Flash is no longer working, i just keep getting an error saying: flash resources files are missing. I've done some research and it seems that the language files have been deleted. The mac lab can't be opened without a teacher, and the library computers are now completely useless to me. I've been here for almost 2 hours trying to find a fix for this problem.
Everything was going along so well, until now. Hopefully I can find a way around this thing.

Monday - 19th September

I spent a nice chunk of my day today doing some work at tafe because I only have flash cs5, and flash cs 5.5 files aren't backwards compatible. This has proved to be very frustrating as I am now limited by when I can do my work.
I managed to save two versions of my flash assignment in class last Friday and couldn't find the real one. I eventually managed to locate it and got to do some coding. I'm so sick of flash now, coding in flash is no fun but it somehow makes sense to me. I've coded a fair few of the items. I've applied the code to blank squares, Brent is making the images we will be using and i will simply replace the blank squares with the images.

So that's it so far, tomorrow i will finish the code and get started on a start menu for our app.

Monday - 12th September - Week 6

Brent put together an image showing the locations of where the interactive items will go in our flash prototype.









I've done the coding for the interactive buttons in flash, now I'm waiting for Brent's help to create the buttons. Once that has been done, our flash prototype will be almost complete.

Luke is working on the interface design, which seems to be going well. I suggested we put a start menu before the interactive is launched which describes how the interactive is used and which interactive they will choose. (pc or mobile version).

Monday - 12th September - Week 6

Today was a very busy day for our group. We got a lot done today with the time we had, and I am pleased to say that all 3 of us did fantastic work today. We finally have our flash file working as intended, with the room being rotated with the mouse and information popping up when clicked.
We also began work on an interface today, and decided to create a non-flash outcome for those who don't have flash.

We have also worked on two separate dimensions for our outcome, one for mobile and one for pc, as shown below:





Monday - 5th September - Week 5

Today we decided on an interface for our assignment. After some lengthy discussions we decided how we were going to set up our panorama in flash. We are going to make the screen pan across hen the user places their mouse at the edge of the screen.

We also had a class discussion where we got to show our progress to Werner and the class, which helped us refine our ideas. We have yet to decide on a name for our outcome, but I don't feel that is very important at this time. Hopefully we can get the flash coding complete by the end of week 6.

Monday - 29 August - Week 4





Just came back from shooting our photos.
We decided to shoot our photos in a home office. We didn't shoot in a bedroom due to possible lack of interactive features. We will spend the remaining of the day doing some colour correction and organising the photos together.

Below are some photos Luke took of our setup, and our photo shooting process. Luke took these photos using his mobile phone. In all we managed to take 95 photos. We used Brent's camera and he was the one who took the images since he knew how to use the camera.
All in all, it went really well and I am very pleased with the photos that were taken.
I am looking forward to see how the project will work once it has been put together.

Saturday - 28 August

So, i have been without my main workstation this week. My dads computer died and hes taken to using mine. Nonetheless i have been trying to make the most out of a bad situation. I have begun storyboarding, even though my drawings are terrible, they get the message across and effectively portray what the outcome will look like. I will hopefully be uploading some screen shots tomorrow.

I am very happy with the way our group has approached the assignment thus far. We are on top of our work and on time. Come Monday, we will look over the storyboards and hopefully get some photographs.

Research Assignment - Week 3 - August 22, 2011


Today Luke and I worked on our list of items to include in our 360 degree room. We have split these items up into 12 categories listed below:

We were short a member today (Brent) but we have seemed to remain productive and on track. This week we will complete our storyboards, list our items for the room and next week we will hopefully be ready to take photographs.

I am trying to locate a text to speech recognizer, in order to record and document our discussions. I have found one called Dragon, but it is only free for iphone.

Displayed below is the table we were working on today for the items in our bedroom. It isn't yet finished, but the table outlines the major areas we will be covering in this room. We are still throwing ideas in the air about how our final product will perform and educate the audience. When the storyboards / room sketches are complete we will have a clear vision of what our outcome will look like and how it will perform.

For our group research assignment we will be re-creating a bedroom using photos in order to manipulate a 3D environment. Our final product will incorporate text, sound, motion graphics, and interactivity, supplying the user with knowledge and raising their awareness on sustainability within the household and dispelling any misconceptions they may have about sustainability.

The user will explore the interactive by scrolling horizontally through the scene and finding the twelve interactive objects. The objects will display sustainability issues and how to approach these problems in order to achieve a more sustainable outcome. We will incorporate a scoring system into the interactive using money as an indicator of score. The user will be able to save more money by introducing more sustainable outcome.

The reason we have chosen to use money as our scoring system is because people want to save money, more than ever. By using this interactive, if people can see they will save money, they are more likely to absorb the information included in our interactive.

Our target audience for this interactive will be people who are either misinformed about sustainability in their home or people who would like to become more sustainable.

We will create the room by taking photos at 30-degree increments from the center of the room in a 360-degree circle. We will then use the photomerge tool in Adobe Photoshop to turn it into a panoramic image. Below is an example of what we expect the outcome to look like.

Research Assignment - Week 2 - August 15, 2011


In order to create the room we will be using, we will take multiple photos of the room and then string them together using photoshop, creating an almost 3D environment the user will be able to explore.

Research Assignment - Week 2 - August 15, 2011


Today we had a re briefing for our assignment. We have decided to include sound in our assignment as our target audience would feel more engaged with audio rather than reading text. Our target audience will not necessary be a specific aged group, but rather those who don't know much about sustainability and want to become more sustainable around the home.


Below is a demonstration I made using illustrator. When an interactive feature is displayed it becomes highlighted, indicating that it is interactive. When the user clicks the highlighted image then additional information is displayed along with the audio.

Research Project - Day 1 - 8/8/2011

Research Project - Day 1 - 8/8/2011

Today we formed our groups. Brent, Luke and I all formed a group. Our topic for this assignment is sustainability. We chose to base our project around sustainability in the home. We are focusing on one room which will be the bedroom. We chose to do only one room of the house because that way we could provide a more detailed response.

We decided to make the bedroom into a 3D environment. We will construct the room using photos, we chose to use photos as this will give the user a more realistic environment to explore. The user will navigate the 3D environment and select certain objects in order to turn them on and off and find additional information on the item. For example: If the user clicked a light switch, it would turn the light switch off and a text box would display the amount of energy that can be saved by turning a light switch off.
